German Mining Network

Germany sustains a global network of 120 bilateral German Chambers of Commerce and Industry in 80 countries to support German businesses abroad. Their common objective is to offer business development services and market entry support for German companies of all industry sectors. Partially funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the network is coordinated and supervised by the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Deutscher Industrie- und Handelskammertag, DIHK).

Since 2010, the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) has supported the establishment of several Competence Centres for Mining and Mineral Resources in selected, strategically relevant countries: Australia, Brasil, Canada, Chile, Peru, and South Africa. The Centres aim to foster bilateral business relationships in the mining sector and to provide industry and market expertise to the German mining and manufacturing sectors.

The Competence Centre for Mining and Mineral Resources in Canada closely collaborates with the Centres in Australia, Brazil, Chile, South Africa and Peru in what is called the “German Mining Network”. In addition to the six Competence Centres, the network includes Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), the German Mineral Resources Agency (DERA) and the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK). It is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and closely collaborates with the German Federation of International Mining and Mineral Resources (FAB), the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) and the Association of German Industry (BDI).

A quarterly Newsletter published by all four Centres and its network partners informs about past and future activities and economic facts in each country.
